Spent months convinced the apps were broken. Turned out his best photo was sitting in fourth place and his bio was a list of hobbies.
About us
MatchGrade did not start as a business. It started as two guys on the same couch, on the same apps, getting the same nothing.
Straight answers, up front
How it started
We are Joris and Sam. Friends for years, both single at the same time, both putting a genuinely embarrassing number of hours into swiping. Joris went about four months on one app without a single conversation that lasted past hello.
We blamed everything. The algorithm. The city. The apps for burying you unless you pay. It is a comfortable story, because every part of it is somebody else's fault.
Then one evening Sam handed his phone over and said: just tell me what is actually wrong with it. Not the nice version.
The nice version had been going around for months. Everyone had seen those photos. Everyone had said they were good. Nobody had said that the first one was cropped out of a wedding photo, that the third was a group shot where you could not tell which one he was, or that the bio was a list of hobbies ending in “just ask.”
So we did it properly. We went through each other's profiles photo by photo and said the blunt thing out loud. It was not a fun hour. We cut photos we both liked. We rewrote both bios from scratch.
Things changed after that. Same two guys, same faces, same lives, better profiles. Nothing magic happened. We had just stopped guessing.
Our profiles were the problem. Everybody could see it except us.
That is the part that stuck with us. The information was not hidden. It was obvious to anyone who looked. It just never reaches you, because the people who love you are too kind to say it and everyone else swipes past without a word.
MatchGrade is that hour, minus the awkwardness. The same honest read on your photos and your bio, done consistently, scored, and explained. No friendship on the line, and no need to know somebody willing to be that blunt with you.
Who we are
There is no growth team and no office. There are two of us, and we both read the support inbox.

Engineering
The one who said it out loud first. Builds the thing that now says it for us, so nobody has to risk a friendship over a group photo.
What we believe
Your friends will tell you your profile is fine. That is what friends do. We would rather tell you the truth in a way you can act on this afternoon.
“Smile more” helps nobody. “Photo three is a group shot and you're not obviously in it” gives you something to delete. Every score comes with a reason.
They live in a private bucket, they are never publicly listed, they are deleted automatically after 90 days, and they are never used to train an AI model.
Uploading costs nothing and needs no account. We show you where the profile is weakest first, and you only pay if you want the full breakdown. Once, not monthly.
The full detail on photos and data lives in our privacy policy.
Being straight with you
We would rather you know this before you pay us anything.
Anything else you want to ask, the FAQ covers most of it, and support@matchgrade.app reaches one of us directly.
Upload your photos and bio and get the honest read. No account, nothing to pay to start, about two minutes.
